what you want to do is get VLC MEDIA PLAYER

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/1.1.0/win32/vlc-1.1.0-win32.exe/download

u dont need any codecs with vlc

MKV files are HD if you convert them and dont do it right they will be bad quality

hope this helps

I use a codec to play mkv files on the computer, not sure what it is but it enables windows media player to play it. Although I think media player classic will play them, I needed to codec so I could stream them to the playstation!

Yeah, as Kehhlyr has suggested, go with the codec rather than converting formats; I much prefer mkv over avi.

Try the codec pack listed here: http://www.cccp-project.net/

That should enable .mkv extensions to be played under Windows Media Player etc.
